Editing services

My main aim as an editor is to help any writer bring their ideas to the audience they are trying to reach. I’ll help you present your text clearly and respectfully, and in a way that preserves your voice and unique perspectives.

I can help you with:

  • structural and development editing
  • copy editing
  • proofreading
  • project editing/management of books
  • writing and rewriting.

I can also help with research; converting text to Australian, UK or American English; formatting text for designers; permissions research; and image research.

I’ve worked on:

  • general non-fiction – including memoir, music, history, culture, opinion, current affairs, politics
  • illustrated books
  • visual art monographs and exhibition catalogues
  • children’s picture books and young readers’ fiction
  • short texts (feature articles, reports, briefs, web copy, proposals, etc.)
  • educational books and PhD theses.

Publishers and organisations I’ve worked with include:

I’m also subeditor, regular writer and occasional interviewer for the independent Australian print magazine Women In Pop.

New to publishing?

If you’re an author who is new to publishing and you’d like to find out more about what an editor can do, the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) in Australia has helpful information on types of editing and what you can expect.

If you are hoping to place your manuscript with a publisher but are not sure how to go about it, I strongly recommend engaging a manuscript assessor and/or a publishing mentor to advise you on the best pathways to publishing your manuscript before you dive into editing. You can find these specialists via local writing organisations (e.g. Writing NSW). Structural and copy editing are most effective when you are crystal clear on who your audience is, and when you know the steps you will take after editing is complete.
